Alternative Thinking is a multi-dimensional specialty store offering products and events for the body, mind and spirit. The business, owned and operated by Rezo Mekvabishvili, had humble beginnings as a small section of a used bookstore with about 300 titles . As hard as he looked, Rezo explains, he couldn’t find a store that offered a wide array of different perspectives on the human experience. He called this dedicated section of the bookstore Alternative Thinking — a collection of knowledge that has been largely underrepresented. It was his introduction to psychedelic music and visionary art that inspired him to expand his collection. The community was so responsive that the popular section eventually took over the entire space and Alternative Thinking became its very own bookstore.

While most bookstores stick to the classic categories, Rezo’s intention was to display academic, spirituality-based and psychedelic materials all under one roof. “I began charting and mapping out a library of consciousness,” he explains. Today, the shop’s collection is curated in such a way that it takes the reader on a path of self-discovery, almost in a choose-you-own-adventure sort of way.

In addition to books, the shop also carries music, original artwork, clothing, hula-hoops, crystals, jewelry, lanterns, musical instruments, and ceremonial aids like candles and sage.
